Our Vision
Established in 2011, SM Tanjore Arts is rooted in a strong familial tradition and a deep commitment to the heritage of Tanjore painting. What began as a personal passion has evolved into a socially conscious enterprise that supports artists in need. Many of our artists face financial challenges or lack recognition for their craft. Through meaningful, sustained engagement, SM Tanjore Arts helps them find stability in their work.
Unlike most businesses, we supply to both wholesalers and retailers, including respected outlets such as Golkonda Handicrafts Emporium. Our work has been featured at Chitra Santhe, Bangalore’s prestigious annual art festival, and we proudly serve clients across India with a growing national reach.
We are committed to authenticity in every detail. Each painting is crafted using pure 22-karat gold leaf, genuine Jaipur gemstones, and high-grade poster colours. All materials are carefully sourced to maintain the highest standards of quality, and every piece is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
In addition to traditional motifs, we specialise in customised commissions and gladly work with themes less commonly seen in Tanjore painting. We also undertake the restoration of old Tanjore works, preserving pieces that hold both cultural and personal significance. Even when working with unclear references or faded photographs, our artists can create respectful, detailed reconstructions.
Our work is inclusive, secular, and transcends ideology. Over the years, we have created paintings featuring a diverse range of motifs, including depictions of deities and sacred figures from various religious traditions.

About the Founder
S. Madhumitha
Madhumitha Senthilkumar began learning the art of Tanjore painting in her teens under the guidance of her paternal aunt, R. Chitra, and later trained with respected artists Periannan and Rajkumar. Her keen eye for detail and deep understanding of the tradition have made her an effective guide and collaborator. Since founding SM Tanjore Arts in 2011, Madhumitha has focused on ensuring the authenticity of every painting, supporting artists through thoughtful feedback, project management, and long-term engagement. She works with artisans across different age groups and experience levels, helping them refine their skills and gain stability.

In addition to her painting practice, Madhumitha has been working closely with Brhaddhvani under the guidance of Dr. Karaikudi S. Subramanian since 2019 to support the craft of veena making. She is the founder-director of Vipanchi MusiCrafts, an outlet for Brhaddhvani’s research-driven products. Her role has been instrumental in assisting veena craftsmen and fostering the continuity of this rare and valuable tradition. Guided by a philanthropic spirit, Madhumitha’s work is grounded in sustaining heritage crafts, while fostering a supportive, sustainable community for the artists behind it.
